this page is about my 1998 christmas vacation. for the most part i didn't do much at all during the entire vacation however i don't think i'll write about that. i will however tell you about the action packed trip that i took with some of my friends. it all started when brodie chalmers invited me out to a week at his cabin in invermere. i had been there once before during the summer and had a really good time, this coupled with the fact that brodie is a pretty good guy cemented my decision to go. along on the trip were two other of my friends: sol aasland (whom i ran into on the bus the other day but was to busy to talk to) and andrew "mr. black" couch. so the three of us crammed into brodies dad's (i think) truck and were off. along the way we passed by a national parks sting operation, they had pulled over every motorist that didn't have a valid parks pass. the whole trip was a little cramped seeing as there was the four of us in the cab of the truck which obviously hadn't been designed to carry that amount of people. however we listened to a live at san quentin and folsom prison album of johnny cash's which in my opinion is one of the best albums of all times, country or otherwise, and so this made the trip much more bearable. so as not to draw this page out I'll now write about our activities while we were in invermere. on the first night after getting there we went sledding, sort of anyway, we had a bunch of garbage bags and a gt snowracer. It was pretty cool. we went up to panorama on one of our days to hit the slopes. andy and brodie skied, seeing as that's what they do best, while sol and i snowboarded. after the first couple runs sol and i split off due to the fact that skiing and snowboarding while requiring similar terrain don't always coexist in a harmonious manner (we were holding brodie and andy up). we met up again at lunch and at the end of the day for a couple more runs together. the most memorable part of the day for me however was right after lunch when all of us (sans sol) went to the top of panorama and rode just out of bounds from "outer limits". sol couldn't make it up the rope tow due to the fact that he hasn't ridden them much. tonnes of deep fresh steep powder awaited us out of bounds. unfortunately due to the fact that i didn't know the terrain and didn't keep close to brodie, who did know the terrain, i got lost. really lost. the in a valley with no ski run in sight type of lost. needless to say it took me what i guess to be around 45 min. (or 1 hour 45 min., i can't remember) to finally find my way back to the ski hill. i figured that if i kept walking towards the direction of the ski hill i would eventually get back there, even if it ended up being after sundown if i did. by the time i did find the hill, and ski down the run i had found, it was last run. |
